Bliss

Edmonton voyage

Best trip I’ve ever taken

Perfect vacation

I just had the best weekend of my life. Who would have thought that Alberta, Canada would be so fun? Granted, the trip wasn’t exotic, like Egypt, or luxurious, like Cancun and Jamaica (though we did have dessert in a revolving rooftop restaurant, which was pretty fancy-schmancy), but Mom and I just had a fabulous time. We had a culinary adventure – every meal, from Vietnamese the first night to vegan Indonesian the final night, was bliss. We went to Alberta’s natural history museum, an exhibition of the best wildlife photography in the world, and the largest indoor waterpark ever built. We wandered through a giant park by the river that runs through the city, as well as an indoor plant conservatory consisting of 4 glass pyramids, each with a different climate inside. I enjoyed every moment. And to think, it was only 2 weeks ago that we first had the idea of going on a trip at all!

Détente

An uneasy truce

Between me and the Basset

I loathe his odor

Let me say this first: I have a problem with all dogs, not just mine. Clyde is very nice…for a dog. But that’s sort of like saying that Charlotte is very nice for a spider. Still a spider, still a dog. Still can’t get within 10 feet of him without wanting to vomit. I am glad for what he has done for my family, they seem a lot happier with him around. I just need to avoid him at all costs, and then I can appreciate him from a distance.

Relax, Dammit

Too stressful by far

Letting obligations go

is neccesary

I realize that I can’t remember a summer where I haven’t had some sort of irksome obligation hanging over me. This summer it was going to be two things – teaching myself piano, and learning to drive. I really don’t want to do either one. And while both are skills I will eventually need, I have some time to learn them. I won’t have a car next year, so I don’t need a licence, and I’ve decided to buck up and just take the darn piano course at Rice, because I hate practicing so much that unless there is a grade involved, I just won’t do it. And that’s ok. I want a summer to breathe. There is definitely not enough breathing in my life. And as everyone knows, breathing is the number one thing you can do to become a better singer!

Opera

Coolest sets I’ve ever seen

Nice music as well

Tchaikovsky didn’t write much opera, but the few he did write are really good. Add to that HGO’s daring ideas for sets and choreography, and you have quite a show.

My favorite teacher/mentor/friend is leaving! Who will be the teacher-I-call-God now? At least she’s going to the west coast, so we can see her a few summers from now. But…WAAAAAH!
